Ontario SPCA Tackles Animal Hoarding

Our Ontario movers have long been supporters of charitable leagues, including animal defense organizations, and we are pleased to announce that 57 rabbits have been rescued by the Ontario SPCA from an animal hoarding situation. With over sixty years in the relocation industry, we are one of the most experienced Ontario moving companies and have witnessed our fair share of compulsive hoarding situations. Animal hoarding involves keeping unusually large numbers of pets without the ability to properly care for them or provide adequate space. In particular, the rabbits that were rescued were noted as living in poor conditions without food, water or sufficient care. Some of the rabbits have already been adopted out by loving new owners, but there are still approximately 57 that need quality new homes. Ottawa, get ready for the biggest names in the NHL. Skating their way to Ottawa are the best athletes in the NHL as voted by the fans. And here at Ottawa movers, Harris Movers & Storage, we voted, especially for the hometown Ottawa Senators' players.

Tune in Sunday, Jan. 29, at 4 p.m. ET to watch four of your Ottawa Senators take to the rink at Scotiabank Place. Ottawa defenseman, Erik Karlson led the way with 939,591 All-Star votes. The three remaining Senators on the All-Star team include forwards', Daniel Alfredsson, Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek.

No matter where you are from in Canada, everyone loves hockey. The Toronto movers will be rooting on their Toronto Maple Leafs' players.

Toronto’s Prized Penguin Pair No More

The Toronto movers are sad to announce that Canada’s most beloved penguin couple has separated. Buddy and Pedro, two male penguins that shared a single nest have split. The Toronto Zoo separated them so they could mate with females. Buddy found a different nest but Pedro didn’t. This resulted with the penguins fighting over nest territory and the ultimate split between the former two best friends forever.

Fans of the two including the Ottawa movers are still in denial over the two’s separation. Two star studded penguins even have their own Twitter handles. Pedro tweeted that the TV stations were spreading “awful rumors about @BuddyPenguin.”

New Alert System for Ontario Seniors.

The Canadian Press reported that, “Ontario is planning on becoming the first province in Canada to develop an alert system to help find their missing seniors who are suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.” The system they plan to create and implement is based on the AMBER Alert system used in the United States and is expected to cost about $1.5 million. It is estimated that 180,000 Ontarians have some form of dementia and this number is expected to grow dramatically. The planned system will be very simple, and even a trucker from a local Ontario moving company could take part in helping the senior get back to his or her family.

Prescription-filling Vending Machines to Arrive in Ontario

It’s amazing what you can find in vending machines nowadays. We’ve all heard the urban myths about some particular items that one could possibly find in vending machines around Japan, but this latest story is completely true. Soon, Ontario residents will have the opportunity to have their prescriptions filled by drug-dispensing machines.

The machines will basically follow the standard pharmacist/patient interaction, but with a twist: a pharmacist will be available in real-time with a two-way video monitor attached to the vending machine. This pharmacist will validate and authorize the patient’s prescription after it’s inserted into the machine. From there, the machine will dispense the necessary medication. In smaller towns, a machine like this could make a huge impact and is an exciting and beneficial use of technology for Ontario residents.

Winchester Hospital Gains Eastern Ontario Public-Health Unit

Pet Love Runs Deep – Ontario Man Moves Across Country to Rescue Man’s Best Friend

When his dog was found running without a leash or muzzle, the dog was taken into custody by bylaw officers. Due to a pitbull ban in Ontario, the dog was going to be euthanized.

Instead, the dog owner made a deal with Oshawa Animal Services, saying that if he moved to Calgary, where there is no ban on pitbulls, they would release the dog back to him. With more than 114 dogs parks in Calgary alone, it’s no doubt that man and his best friend will be happy to be reunited and living in the new city together.

Soccer Stadium is Moving – Ontario has Three Cities Interested

Three cities in Ontario have expressed interest in building the soccer stadium for the 2015 Pan American Games after the City of Hamilton have taken months to reach an agreement on where to build the stadium. With a deadline of February 1, 2011, Hamilton is under increasing pressure to choose where to build the stadium or risk losing it altogether.

Though Hamilton insists they have places of interest, the city falls about $50 million short of the $70 to $90 million price tag of the state-of-the-art stadium. Hence why Mississauga, Brampton and Markham have all showed interest in building the stadium instead.
